The Conference of the Parties of Convention on Biological Diversity requested the Executive Secretary to convene regional workshops as a catalyzing mechanism to allow for the interaction of international thematic focal points with the national focal points to further enhance the scientific and technical cooperation goal of the clearing-house mechanism and to build capacities at the national level with regard to use of and access to new information technologies. The Executive Secretary planned to organize the relevant regional workshop in one of the ten new EU Member States.

Such regional workshop took place from 13th to 15th December 2005 in Sokos Hotel Viru Conference Centre in Tallinn, Estonia with 35 participants, mainly as national focal points from Europe. One of the main reasons for that workshop was the launch of the new versions of European Community Clearing-House Mechanism Portal (EC-CHM2) and it’s Toolkit (PTK2) by European Environment Agency.
