Story The 4th Intergovernmental Biodiversity in Europe Conference in Croatia, 22 - 24 February 2006 - preparation for COP8 in Brazil

The Conference will consider issues on the agenda of the upcoming 8th Conference of the Parties (COP8) to the Biodiversity Convention (CBD), focusing on island biodiversity, CEPA (Communication, Education and Public Awareness) and the Global Taxonomy Initiative.  

Most importantly the conference will address and explore the status of implementation of the biodiversity commitments in the pan-European region, included in the Kyiv Resolution on Biodidiversity from 2003, in order to recognize important achievements and recommend steps to address the gaps and needs fo the region. The strategic issues for evaluating progress to be discussed include Streamlining European 2010 Biodiversity Indicators (SEBI2010), Forest Biodiversity, Agriculture and Biodiversity, Protected Areas and Ecological Networks as well as Invasive Alien Species (IAS).

The conference will take place in the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia.

The upcoming COP8 will be held 20 - 31 March in Curitiba in Brazil.
