Ecosystems are changing in Europe because of the intensification of resource uptake and local species extinctions represent yet another alarming facet of environmental degradation. The headline target that the European Union will work towards to is to halt the loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystem services in the EU by 2020, and restore them in so far as feasible, while stepping up the EU contribution to averting global biodiversity loss. A call for expression of interest to participate in this open consultation has beem published by the European Commisison, expiring on 5.5.2010. For more information use the link provided.
