Collaboration and communication are key components of global efforts to halt the loss of biodiversity. Building a global network of collaborating national CHM and partners is an important initiative to support the activities implementing the various CBD programmes of work including technoilogy transfer, communication, education and public awareness.

Setting  a national CHM portal allows countries to mobilise networks of experts, raise public awareness, communicate biodiversity issues, prepare for biodiversity reporting, connect and publisize biodiversity databases.

Presentations in the side event included also  an update on developments in the CBD CHM site by the Secretariat, the current priorities of the German CHM, the experiences of setting up the Moroccan CHM, the discussion on strategic issues by the Belgian CHM Partnership, the operations of the Regional  European CHM network.
