First meeting of the European Community Biodiversity Expert Group
The European Commission is establishing a Biodiversity Expert Group(BEG)with a mandate to share information and promote the complementarity of actions taken at Community and Member State levels in the context of the implementation of the Biodiversity Strategy (COM (1998) 42) and its Action Plans (COM (2001) 162). The BEG shall also promote the implementation of the Action Plans and monitor progress. The first meeting takes place in Brussels 5 February 2002. The responsibility for the BEG rests with the Commission, DG Environment.
