ENCOS 2004 the 1st European Networks Conference in the field of Environment and Sustainable Development (SD) focusses particularly on examples of best practice in Europe. The goal is to arrive at an inter- and transdisciplinary understanding of the latest developments in international practice, research and education on sustainability issues. As the first of a series, the conference offers a communication platform for the various, partly independently operating networks, associations and organisations in Europe and aims to jointly investigate the possibilities of long-term cooperation in the form of a meta-network. Central and Eastern European players as well as interested researchers and practi-tioners are particularly invited to participate in the dialogue.
